What is a faux rug? A faux rug is a fake painted rug. They are typically made of vinyl and have several layers of a protective finish.

  • What is linoleum made of?
  • The main ingredient of genuine linoleum is linseed oil. (In Latin, linum is the word for linseed, which comes from the flax plant, and oleum means oil.). The oil is boiled, mixed with melted resins, and combined with powdered cork, wood flour, resins, ground limestone, and other natural materials. Mineral pigments provide the color. This mixture is formed into a durable sheet by applying heat and pressure.

  • What is the main difference between linoleum and vinyl floors?
  • Although some people still call all sheet floors "linoleum", genuine linoleum is quite different from vinyl floors. Vinyl floors are composed of synthetic materials such as polyvinyl chloride and urethane, while genuine linoleum is made from natural components.

Where are they used? Faux rugs are a popular choice for decorating bare floors such as wood, tile, linoleum, or concrete. They are not recommended for use over carpeting.

How durable are they? Faux rugs, with normal use, can last for years. Each faux rug is protected with five layers of polyurethane. By comparison, in most vinyl floors, the pattern is printed onto the surface, which is then protected by a vinyl or urethane wear layer.

How do I care for the faux rug? The finish on your faux rug is water/stain resistant. Simply damp mop to clean and occasionally apply a coating of polyurethane. When vacuuming or otherwise cleaning your floor, always make sure to clean beneath the rug to remove any dirt that might have slipped under.

  • The floor should be cleaned regularly using a neutral detergent solution, hardwood floor cleaner does just as well, and I sell them. Because vinyl is made of natural materials, the use of harsh alkalis or high pH products such as ammonia should be avoided. For more details on how to order hardwood floor cleaner, click Angerman Hardwood Floors and you can purchase cleaner for hardwood floor as well as is for the faux rug. Soft Scrub® does just as well for stubborn stains.

  • Sharp objects can tear or scratch your faux rug. E-Z glides for furniture should be added as well as to protect hardwood floors. You can find them on our main site. After the page opens click on store.

  • Your faux rug is designed for interior use only. However, the water/stain resistant sealants will protect your faux rug for use on a covered patio or screened porch.

  • Can I use them in the bathroom, foyer/front entrance? It is not recommended to use these rugs as a bathtub mat or doormat area that apt to get wet on a regular basis. It is recommended that you keep them dry and clean regularly.

Can I use them in the kitchen? Yes. Wipe up any spills immediately with a damp sponge.

Can I use them in the bedroom or nursery? Yes. They are an excellent substitute for typical area rugs, especially if dust mites are a concern.

Will they slide on the floor? Like any area rug, the use of a non-slip pad is recommended because of its weight. These can be purchased anywhere that area rugs are sold. Be sure to get the right size for your rug. Cut the non-slid pad 1/2" shorter surrounding to the size of the rug area.

Can faux rugs be used over existing carpets? No. It is not recommended. Faux rugs are thin and eventually the texture of the carpet will impress itself on the vinyl.

Can I use my rug outdoors? No. These rugs are designed for interior use only.

Can I place furniture on my rug? Yes. However, E-Z glides should be applied to the furniture legs. E-Z glides caps which are made of high-density compressed felts are preferred since they produce less friction than rubber/vinyl caps, click Angerman Hardwood Floors and you can purchase them from me.

How should I store my faux rug? Always roll the vinyl area rug. Never fold or crease it. They should be rolled, face in, over a cylinder no less than 6" in diameter. Store in a cool dry place and avoid placing objects on top of it.
